For every academic session, almost all institutions (university, polytechnic, and college of education) in Nigeria offer transfer approval to some of their candidates. And to be sincere, this has really prevented a lot of students from sitting for JAMB again.
However, I found out that some candidates who are still hoping for admission this year don’t know how to check if they have been offered transfer approval or not. I also found out that some know that they have been offered JAMB transfer approval but don’t know the next step to take.
Well, it’s a normal thing since JAMB transfer approval is not common to most students, but I don’t think that should be an excuse. Because failure to know if you have been transferred or the next step to take after seeing this transfer offer will only make you lose this second golden opportunity.
In order to prevent students like these from losing this opportunity due to ignorance, I decided to come up with this article that will serve as a guide for them. If you are reading this article now, then you definitely want to know if you have been transferred or the next step to take after knowing that you have been transferred. Am I right?
If yes, then relax because this blog post will be explaining all you need to know and the next step to take. Another special thing about this article is that it will explain in detail how transfer approval works, tell you how to check/accept your transfer offer, answer all possible questions you might want to ask, and more.
That sounds interesting, right? If yes, then let’s proceed without wasting much time. I will start by explaining what transfer approval means, and then after that, we will proceed to the next section.
What Is JAMB Transfer Approval?
Get the Guidance You Need to Secure Your Admission!
322 students have booked our one-on-one educational consultation service, and 201 have already been offered admission! We helped them identify what was delaying their admission, guided them on what to do next, and answered all their questions. 134 have resumed their studies, and the rest are waiting for resumption.
We deliver as we say – Book us now and let us identify what's delaying your admission too!
Book Your Consultation NowJAMB transfer is the process whereby a candidate’s choice of course is changed to another that is less competitive. The aim of this transfer is to give candidates who don’t merit their choice of course another course that they are qualified for.
Actually, both JAMB and your choice of institution work hand in hand to make this transfer possible. Now let me explain how it works. Once an institution has given admission to those who merit their choice, of course, they will look out for some departments that still have vacant spaces that need to be filled.
And the truth here is that most of those departments that always have vacant spaces are the ones that are less competitive. So instead of leaving those spaces empty, they will then proceed to transfer candidates who don’t merit admission from their initial choice of course to another that they are qualified for depending on the vacant spaces.
So how does this transfer work? The institution will accumulate all the lists of candidates that they wish to transfer and send them to JAMB, requesting that they place the candidates under transfer of admission. JAMB will then take it up from there by offering the candidates transfer approval on their JAMB caps.
The question here is, “How do I know if JAMB has offered me transfer approval?”. Well, I will tell you that now, but before we proceed, I would like us to look at some other reasons that can make JAMB transfer a candidate.
Reasons for JAMB Transfer Approval
The main reason why institutions transfer candidates is because they didn’t merit their choice of course. Every school has their admission standards, and if you don’t meet them, you are automatically not eligible for their admission.
Below are some of the reasons why institutions might transfer a candidate due to his/her failure to meet up with their admission standards.
- When a candidate’s aggregate score didn’t meet the required mark for his/her choice of course.
- Poor performance in UTME and post-UTME.
Other reasons why a candidate could be transferred include
- When the quota has been exceeded for a candidate’s choice of course, the institution will likely transfer such candidates to another less competitive course.
- When a candidate’s UTME and O’Level subject combination is not in line with his/her choice of course, such candidate will likely be transferred to another course that suits the subject combination.
I found out that some candidates feel bad after being transferred. Well, it’s a normal feeling most students get when they are not able to secure their dream course. But one thing you should understand is that not every candidate will be transferred.
So you should consider yourself lucky for being among those that were transferred. JAMB transfer is not a way to wicked or punish candidates, so stop thinking that way if you are.
Once you are offered this transfer, you will be given the option to accept or reject the offer. If you are interested in the new course you are transferred to, you can easily accept it. But if not, you can reject the offer; we will discuss more on how to do this later on in this article.
First of all, let’s discuss how you can know if you have been offered transfer approval, and then after that, we will talk about how to check and accept your transfer offer.
How to Know If JAMB Has Offered You Transfer Approval
There are two ways to know if JAMB has offered you transfer approval, which are:
1 By JAMB Contacting You
If JAMB has offered you transfer approval, they will contact you.
- Through SMS
One of the ways JAMB contacts candidates that they have been transferred is by sending an SMS (55019) message to them. If you have received the message from 55019, you will see something like “Your first choice institution wants to transfer you to another course…” and you will be asked to go and accept or reject the offer.
- Through Your Email
Another way JAMB reaches out to candidates that they have been transferred is by sending them an email. Not everyone will receive an SMS message, as it is not common, but receiving an email is certain.
The email will contain a message saying, “Your first choice institution wants to transfer you from course A to course B…” and you will be asked to accept or reject the offer. Below is an example of how the email will look like.
2 By Checking Your JAMB Caps
The easiest way to know if you have been given this transfer offer is by checking your JAMB caps. In fact, this way is even the most recommended because you can easily accept or reject the offer if you have been given the transfer approval.
The question here is, “How do you check your JAMB Caps to know if you have been transferred?”. Now let’s discuss that.
How To Check JAMB Caps For Transfer Offer
Below is a step-by-step process on how you can check your JAMB caps to see if you have been transferred or not.
(i) Visit JAMB Caps following this link: https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng. You will be asked to input your email and password; fill in yours, then proceed to login. You will see something exactly like the screenshot below.
In case you have forgotten your password, you can click “forgotten password” and you will be taken to a page where you will be asked to provide your email address. Fill in yours and click on “reset password.” Immediately, you will receive mail that contains your new password, which you can use to login.
(ii) Once you are logged in, you will see several options. Click on “Check Admission Status” just like the screenshot below.
(iii) After that, a new page will load where you will see the option “Access My Caps.” Before you click it, make sure you select the admission year “2024”. See screenshot example below.
(iv) A new page will also load where you will see several options, just like the screenshot below: select “Transfer Approval.”.
(v) When the transfer approval page has opened, you will immediately see if you have been transferred or not. If you have been transferred, you will see a message that says, “Your first choice institution wants to transfer you from…”. Also, you will see the status of the transfer (pending or approved), time and date of the transfer, and a button to accept or reject the offer. If you haven’t been transferred, definitely you won’t see that message.
This is how to check if you have been transferred or not. For those who have been transferred, you will need to accept it if you are interested and reject it if you aren’t. I guess everyone reading this article definitely wants to accept it. This brings us to another section of this article, which will be talking about “how to accept transfers on JAMB caps.”.
How To Accept Transfer On JAMB Caps
Below are the steps to accept the transfer offer on JAMB caps.
(i) Once the transfer approval page has loaded, you will find a button to accept or reject the transfer. Click accept if you are interested; see screenshot example below.
(ii) Once you have clicked the accept button, you will be taken to another page where you can finally accept the offer, click accept. See screenshot below.
Once you have accepted, you will see a message that says “Record(s) successfully updated,” which means JAMB has received your response.
How To Reject Transfer Offer On JAMB Caps
If you want to reject the offer due to one reason or another, just follow the steps below.
(i) Still on that same transfer approval page, you will find a button to accept or reject the offer, just like I said earlier. Click on reject!
(ii) You will then be taken to another page where you can finally reject the offer. Once you click “reject,” JAMB will receive your response immediately.
But note that once you click reject, it means you are NOT interested in the transfer offer and it cannot be reversed.
What Is The Next Step After Accepting Transfer On JAMB Caps?
After accepting the transfer on JAMB caps, there are other things you need to do before you can finally get admission. Don’t get confused; seeing the transfer offer on your JAMB caps doesn’t mean you have been offered admission yet.
Most students ignorantly relax after accepting the transfer offer, thinking they have been offered admission already, which is false. After accepting the transfer, you are to do a change of course to the new one you were transferred to.
All you need to do is visit any accredited CBT center close to you and change your course. After doing that, you should be offered admission in a few days’ time.
For example, Miracle’s initial choice of course was medicine, but he was transferred to biochemistry. If Miracle is interested in studying biochemistry, he will need to accept the transfer offer on his JAMB caps, then proceed to any accredited CBT center and change his course from medicine to biochemistry.
Does JAMB Transfer Approval Have A Deadline?
There is no specific date as the deadline for accepting the transfer offer. However, all candidates that were transferred are to accept the offer before their institution’s admission process closes, or else it will be useless. So please endeavor to do all the necessary things as early as possible to avoid losing your admission.
There are some institutions that normally give deadlines, and some students won’t know. So please endeavor to check your school portal regularly for information so you won’t be left behind. Also, the best practice is to do all the necessary things as early as possible to prevent a story that touches the heart.
Can I Gain Admission Without Accepting Transfer?
No, if you were given JAMB transfer approval, you cannot gain admission without accepting the offer. Before you can be offered admission after transfer, you need to accept the offer and do a change of course at any accredited CBT center.
After Accepting the JAMB Transfer Offer, Is My Admission Guaranteed?
Yes, your admission is 99.9% guaranteed, provided that you have changed your course to the new one and your school admission process is still on. If your school admission process was over before you accepted the transfer, you can’t get admission, and there are no two ways about it.
Conclusion
With all this information, I am sure you understand how transfer approval works now and the right thing to do after seeing the offer. Like I said earlier, JAMB transfer gives candidates who don’t merit their choice of course another chance to gain admission by changing their course to a less competitive one.

Can transfer approval be made twice just in case the applicant neither accepts nor rejects the new course?

After doing my change of course to the transferred course ,it is reflecting on my caps but the initial course is still there on my school putme portal hope I don’t have a problem.
Thank you for your response. I don’t think you should have any problem as long as it is showing on your caps.
Alright thank you sir
But how long can it take before I will be admitted
Thank you for your response. Have you confirmed if your O’Level results have been uploaded?
Yes it has been uploaded before my putme and it is still there every time I checked.
Thank you for your response. Have you also checked if any of your details didn’t match? Maybe the name, age, date of birth and more. We will be waiting for your response.
Everything is intact is just that my putme is still showing my initial course which is mass com but in jamb portal it’s showing education and English language.
Thank you for your response. That might be what made your caps change from AIP to Not Admitted. Did you do a change of course before? All your details must be the same before you can be considered for admission. We will be awaiting your response.
What if you have accepted the transfer and It over 8 days ago and haven’t see admitted yet, what should I do
Thank you for your response. Have you changed your course to the new one you were transferred to? If yes, you will be offered admission soon as long as your school admission process is still on.
I was giving transfer approval of which I have accepted but getting to the CBT center for a change of course I was told that it couldn’t be done after making payments I was told that it was because of me having admissions in progress and I was told to come back later so my question is, is it normal or I should be worried and take action that one
Two
What kind of actions can I take
Thank you for your response. That AIP that is showing on your JAMB caps, is it for your initial choice of course or the new one you were transferred to? We will be waiting for your response.
It for the new one I was transferred to
Thank you for your response. You should be able to do a change of course regardless of if your caps is in AIP. I will suggest you visit an accredited CBT centre because without changing your course, you might face complications later that will make you lose your admission.
I was given a Jamb transfer from Pharmacy to pharmacology. After accepting the transfer my course changed to the new course, pharmacology but I refreshed my caps and it changed back to the old one, pharmacy. Then I did a change of course to pharmacology but haven’t been admitted yet.
Thank you for your response. Yes, you will be offered admission as long as your school admission process is still on.
