The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), is a kind of institution that pays so much attention to aggregate scores when it comes to their admission process.
In other words, before you can be considered for admission into FUTO, your aggregate score must meet up with your departmental cut-off mark. This simply means that if you don’t meet up, you won’t get admitted.
The truth is that FUTO is a very competitive institution in which only the best will stand a chance, while the rest will be left aside. That’s why, as an aspirant of FUTO, it will be very wise of you to know your aggregate score even before their admission process starts.
Knowing this aggregate score will not just let you know your chances of gaining admission but also help you make the right decision on time before it’s too late. Now some of you might want to ask, ‘How do I know my aggregate score for FUTO?’
Well, you will know your aggregate score after FUTO releases their screening results. But instead of waiting till then, which will actually waste time, you can know yourself by just calculating it, which is exactly what I will be explaining in this article.
All you just have to do is follow the step-by-step process I will be explaining below, and by the end of this article, you should be able to know your aggregate score. So without wasting much time, let’s proceed.
How To Calculate FUTO Aggregate Score 2025/2026
To calculate your aggregate score for FUTO, you will be needing both your UTME score and O’level results. Your UTME score weighs 60%, while your O’Level results weighs 40%, making a total of 100%.
Now to calculate your aggregate score for FUTO, kindly follow the step-by-step process below.
STEP 1: Calculate Your UTME Score
To calculate your UTME score, simply multiply whatever you scored in UTME with 0.15, and that’s all. Multiplying it by 0.15 is just you trying to convert your UTME score to 60%.
For example,
Let’s say Victoria scored 320 in UTME. To calculate her UTME score, we just need to multiply 320 with 0.15.
So multiplying it, we will get
320×0.15 = 48
Therefore, Victoria’s UTME score after calculating it is 48 out of 60%.
STEP 2: Calculate Your O’Level Score
To calculate your O’Level score, simply add up the corresponding grade scores of your 4 core O’Level subjects and multiply it by 0.1. Your 4 core O’Level subjects are the 4 subjects you did in UTME.
Multiplying it by 0.1 is just you trying to convert your O’Level results to 40%. Now the corresponding grade score for aspirants using one sitting is slightly different from the corresponding grade score for aspirants using two sittings.
So what exactly are this one and two sitting all about? In brief, one sitting simply means making use of a single O’Level result (e.g., WAEC, NECO, or GCE), while two sittings simply mean making use of two different O’Level results (e.g., WAEC & NECO, NECO & GCE, and more).
Below are the corresponding grade scores for both one and two sittings in FUTO.
One Sitting
A1 = 100
B2 = 90
B3 = 80
C4 = 70
C5 = 60
C6 = 50
Two Sitting
A1=95
B2=85
B3=75
C4=65
C5=55
C6=45
Anything other than C6 is 0.
Now let’s take an example.
Let’s say Victoria is a Med & Surg aspirant; she will definitely do English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in UTME. Now let’s also say she is using only WAEC (one sitting), and she got the following grades in those UTME 4 subjects in WAEC.
English Language = A1
Physics = B3
Chemistry = B2
Biology = A1
To calculate her O’Level score, we will first need to assign the corresponding score to each of those 4 subjects based on the grade. Remember she is using one sitting, so assigning it, we will get
English Language = A1 (100)
Physics = B3 (80)
Chemistry = B2 (90)
Biology = A1 (100)
Now that we have assigned it, the next thing to do is to add them together. Adding the corresponding scores, we will get
100+80+99+100= 370
And lastly, we need to multiply that score by 0.1, as mentioned earlier. Multiplying it, we will get
370 ÷ 0.1 = 37
Therefore, Victoria’s UTME score is 37 out of 40%.
STEP 3: Add The UTME And O’Level Score Together
The final step to get your aggregate score is to add whatever you got after calculating your UTME score with whatever you got after calculating your O’Level score.
From the example I used above, we can see that after calculating Victoria’s UTME score, we got 48, while after calculating her O’Level score, we got 37.
So to get her final aggregate score, we just need to add those two scores together. Adding them together, we will get
48+37 = 85
Therefore, Victoria’s aggregate score for FUTO is 85 out of 100%.
That’s just all about calculating the FUTO aggregate score, and as you can see, it’s very easy.
Now before I conclude this article, I would like to give you two pieces of bonus information which I feel is important. They include:
- Take note that FUTO accepts a combination of two O’Level results for all courses except Medicine & Surgery.
- Do well to upload your O’Level results to your JAMB caps before FUTO begins their screening process. Failure to do so will lead to your aggregate score getting affected negatively.
So in conclusion, FUTO makes use of UTME scores and O’Level results to calculate their aggregate score, which I have explained the process in this article already. What did you score after calculating your aggregate score? Kindly tell us in the comment section below. Thank you for reading this article.
