To calculate your O’Level (WAEC, NECO, GCE, or more) score, just simply sum up the corresponding grade score for your grades in your 5 core O’Level subjects. The corresponding scores for each grade are

A1= 10
B2=9
B3=8
C4=7
C5=6
C6=5

Before you can be allowed to study in LASU, there are some certain subjects (5) you need to take in your O’Level depending on your course.

And without doing those 5 subjects, you won’t be able to study that course in LASU. Just in case you don’t know your 5 core subjects, kindly visit HERE; LASU has made things easier by making the 5 core subjects for all courses available on their portal. All you have to do is visit the link, select your choice of course, and you will see your 5 core O’Level subjects.

Now back to the calculation of your O’Level score; let’s take an example so you can understand better.

Example

Imagine Bella wants to study Medicine and Surgery in LASU, her 5 core O’Level subjects will be English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Let’s say her she did NECO and got the following grades in those 5 subjects

English Language = B2
Mathematics = B3
Physics = A1
Chemistry = A1
Biology = B3

To calculate her O’Level grade score, we will start by assigning the corresponding score for each of those grades.

English Language = B2(9)
Mathematics = B3(8)
Physics = A1(10)
Chemistry = A1(10)
Biology = B3(8)

Now let’s add them up

9+8+10+10+8=45

Therefore, Bella’s O’Level score is 45% out of 50%.

Now let’s move to step 2!

STEP 2: Calculate Your UTME Score

This can be calculated by dividing your score in UTME by 8. For example, let’s say Bella scored 289 in her UTME. To calculate her UTME score, we just need to divide 289 by 8. Doing this, we will get

289÷8 = 36.125

Therefore, Bella’s UTME score is 36.125

STEP 3: Add Your O’Level Score and UTME Score

So to get your final aggregate, simply add your O’Level score and UTME score together. Still using Bella as an example, remember we calculated her O’Level score as 45 and her UTME score as 36.125, to get her final aggregate, we just need to add those two numbers. Adding them, we will get

45+36.125 = 81.125

So Bella’s aggregate score is 81.125% out of 100%.

What You Should Know After Calculating Your Aggregate Score For LASU

After knowing your aggregate score for LASU, one thing you should take note of is the fact that your admission isn’t guaranteed. The Lagos Nigeria University (LASU) is not 100% transparent in their admission process. They have no departmental cut-off mark, and their criterias for offering admission are undisclosed.

Even if you want to study fisheries and your aggregate score is 75%, which is quite high, that might 60% guarantee your admission but not 100%. Another person who got 65% might be accepted and you wouldn’t; that’s just how it is.

They are also known for favouring mostly indigenes of Lagos State, but still, that doesn’t mean that as an indigene of Lagos State, your admission into LASU is guaranteed; you will only get a little upper hand above others. Our advice for you as an indigene/non-indigene is to make sure your aggregate gets to at least 70% or, better still, 80%; at least this way, your admission will be 70% guaranteed.

With all said and done, I believe by now you should have been able to calculate your aggregate score already. If you have any further questions on this topic, kindly drop them in the comment section below, and we will gladly respond to you. Thank you for reading this article.
