The University of Ilorin is one of the most sought-after universities in Nigeria, which makes it very competitive. In fact, several aspirants of UNILORIN last year complained that they weren’t able to secure admission into this institution despite their high UTME score.
UNILORIN is one of those institutions that doesn’t release their departmental cut-off mark to the public. Which means you have to get as high an aggregate score as possible to be able to secure admission into UNILORIN due to the large number of applicants they get every year.
This is not to scare you, but just to make you understand what you are up to. Now that you have seen that UNILORIN is very competitive, it will be very wise for you as an aspirant to know how to calculate your aggregate score even before their admission process starts.
The real truth is that calculating your aggregate score doesn’t guarantee your admission in any way. But at least it will help you know your chances of gaining admission after comparing it with your choice of course. This way, you will know the next decision to take rather than waiting and hoping for an admission with a very slim possibility.
Now the question here is, how do you calculate your aggregate score for UNILORIN? Well, in today’s article, I will be showing you a step-by-step guide on how to calculate the UNILORIN aggregate score. So without wasting time, let’s hit the nail on the head.
How To Calculate UNILORIN Aggregate Score For 2025/2026 Admission
There are two methods of calculating the UNILORIN aggregate score. The first one is for UTME applicants, while the second one is for Direct Entry applicants.
In case you don’t know, the two common modes of admission are through UTME and Direct Entry. The UTME is also known as the primary mode of admission, where candidates will be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam conducted by JAMB.
While Direct Entry is another mode of admission also overseen by JAMB. It is also another way to get admission and is specifically for those with A’Level or diplomas like HND, ND, NCE and more. I hope you understand this now. I had to briefly explain it so you will know which mode of admission you are using to avoid confusion while reading this article.
So to make this section understandable, I will have to split it into two subsections. The first will tell you how to calculate the UNILORIN aggregate score if you are a UTME applicant. While the second will tell you how to calculate the UNILORIN aggregate score if you are a direct entry applicant.
How To Calculate UNILORIN Aggregate Score (UTME Applicants)
To calculate your aggregate as a UTME applicant in UNILORIN, you will be needing three things, which include your
- UTME Score
- post-UTME Score
- O’Level Result
Your UTME score weighs 50%, your post-UTME score weighs 30%, while your O’Level result weighs 20%, which gives a total of 100%. So to calculate your aggregate score as a UTME applicant, kindly follow the step-by-step process below.
STEP 1: Convert your UTME score to 50%.
To convert your UTME score to 50%, you just simply need to divide your UTME score by 8.
For example,
Let’s say Michael’s UTME score was 280. To convert it to 50%, we simply need to divide his score by 8. So calculating it, we will get
280 ÷ 8 = 35
So after calculating Michael’s UTME score, we got 35 out of 50%. Let’s keep the 35 aside.
STEP 2: Convert your post-UTME score to 30%.
UNILORIN post-UTME is usually over 100, so to convert your post-UTME score to 30%, simply use the formula.
(post-UTME score ÷ 100) × 30
For example,
Let’s say Michael scored 75 in his post-UTME; to convert his post-UTME to 30%, we simply need to use the formula mentioned earlier. Calculating it, we will get
(75÷100)×30 = 0.75 × 30 = 22.5%
So after converting Michael’s post-UTME score, we got 22.5 out of 30%. Let’s keep the 22.5 aside.
STEP 3: Convert your O’Level results to 20%.
To do this, you will need to know the grades of your 5 core O’Level subjects combination. After that, all you have to do is to add the respective points of each grade you got in 5 core O’Level subjects.
Below are the respective points of each grade.
Grades | Points |
A1 | 4.0 |
B2 | 3.6 |
B3 | 3.2 |
C4 | 2.8 |
C5 | 2.4 |
C6 | 2.0 |
Anything other than C6 is 0.
For example,
Let’s say Michael did WAEC, and he got the following grades in his 5 core O’Level subjects as an aspirant of Medicine & Surgery in UNILORIN.
English B3
Mathematics B2
Chemistry A1
Biology A1
Physics A1
To convert his O’Level to 20%, we will start by assigning the respective points of each of the grades. The respective points for his grades, looking at the table above, are as follows.
English B3 = 3.2
Mathematics B2 = 3.6
Chemistry A1 = 4.0
Biology A1 = 4.0
Physics A1 = 4.0
Adding all the points, we will get
3.2+3.6+4.0+4.0+4.0 = 18.8
So after converting Michael’s O’Level grades, we got 18.8 out of 20%. Let’s keep the 18.8 aside.
STEP 4: Add The Scores Together
So after converting all your scores to 50%, 30% and 20%, respectively, the final step is to add them together. When we calculated Michael’s own, we got 35 for his UTME, 22.5 for his post-UTME and 18.8 for his O’Level.
So adding them together, we will get
35+22.5+18.8 = 76.3
So therefore, Michael’s final aggregate score for UNILORIN is 76.3 out of 100%. I hope this is clear enough? Now how about for direct entry applicants? Let’s find out.
How To Calculate UNILORIN Aggregate Score (Direct Entry Applicants)
There are 3 details you need to calculate your aggregate score as a Direct Entry applicant in UNILORIN. They include
- A-Level Points or Diploma CGPA (ND/HND & more)
- post-UTME score
- O’Level Result
Your A-Level points/Diploma CGPA, post-UTME score and O’Level weigh 50%, 30% and 20%, respectively. To calculate your aggregate score as a DE applicant, kindly follow the steps below.
STEP 1: Convert your A-Level points or diploma CGPA to 50%.
If you will be using A’Level (IJMB/JUPEB), to convert your points to 50%, kindly make use of the formula below.
(A’Level Points ÷ 16) × 50
While if you will be using a diploma (ND, HND & more), kindly make use of the formula below to convert your CGPA to 50%.
(CGPA ÷ 5) × 50
For example,
Let’s say Miracle will be using A’Level (JUPEB), and he got 14 points. To convert his A-Level to 50%, we simply need to use the formula mentioned earlier. So calculating it, we will have
(14 ÷ 16) × 50 = 0.875 × 50 = 43.75
So Miracle got 43.75 out of 50%.
If you still don’t understand how it was calculated, kindly check your Direct Entry slip, and you will see what you got out of 50%, whether you are using A’Level or a higher degree.
STEP 2: Convert Your Post-UTME Score To 30%
The maximum score you can get in UNILORIN post-UTME is 100. So to convert it to 30%, kindly use the formula below.
(post-UTME Score ÷ 100) × 30
For example,
Let’s say Miracle scored 65 in his post-UTME; to convert it to 30%, we simply make use of the formula stated above. So converting it, we will get
(65 ÷ 100) × 30 = 0.65 × 30 = 19.5
So after converting Miracle’s post-UTME score, we got 19.5 out of 30%.
STEP 3: Convert Your O’Level Grades To 20%
When I say O’Level grades, I mean the grades in your 5 core O’Level subjects. To convert your O’Level grades to 20%, simply add the corresponding points in the grades in your 5 core subjects.
The corresponding points for all grades are as follows.
Grades | Points |
A1 | 4.0 |
B2 | 3.6 |
B3 | 3.2 |
C4 | 2.8 |
C5 | 2.4 |
C6 | 2.0 |
If you get anything other than C6, that’s 0.
Let’s take an example.
Let’s say Miracle did NECO, and his 5 core O’Level subjects combination are English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for Nursing. If he got the following grades
English A1
Mathematics B2
Chemistry B3
Biology B2
Physics B2
To convert his O’Level, we first need to assign the respective points to his grades. So assigning them, we will get.
English A1 = 4.0
Mathematics B2 = 3.6
Chemistry B3 = 3.2
Biology B2 = 3.6
Physics B2 = 3.6
The next thing now is to add the points together. Adding them up, we will get
4.0+3.6+3.2+3.6+3.6 = 18
So after converting Miracle’s O’Level, we got 18 out of 20%. Let’s keep the 18 aside.
STEP 4: Add The Results Together
The final step now is to add everything together. From the example we used above, we could see that after converting Miracle’s A-Level, post-UTME score and O’Level to 50%, 30% and 20%, we got 43.75, 19.5 and 18, respectively.
So adding them up, we will get
43.75 + 19.5 + 18 = 81.25
Therefore, Miracle’s aggregate score as a direct entry student for UNILORIN is 81.25 out of 100%.
So you can see that calculating UNILORIN’s aggregate score is very easy. Earlier, I mentioned that UNILORIN doesn’t release their departmental aggregate cut-off mark to the public. So please, just do your part by scoring as high as possible.
Lastly, don’t jubilate even after calculating your aggregate score, as you might end up not getting admission even with your high aggregate. Your aggregate score only helps you know if your chance of admission into UNILORIN is high. And the fact that your chance is high doesn’t mean your admission is 100% guaranteed.
