The University of Nigeria (UNN) is one of the many universities in Nigeria that prioritises aggregate scores when it comes to their admission process. And due to how competitive this university is, any aspirant who wishes to stand a chance of gaining admission into UNN needs to get a very good aggregate score.
For this reason, aspirants of UNN are always advised to calculate their aggregate score before UNN releases their screening results. This is very wise, as it will help candidates know early if they will stand a chance of gaining admission or not due to the competitiveness of the institution.
This way, the right decision can be made earlier rather than at a time when nothing can be done anymore, in which the only option is to rewrite UTME. The fact that UNN doesn’t even release their departmental cut-off mark is another reason why you need to calculate your aggregate score earlier.
This is because without the school releasing their departmental cut-off mark, you won’t have any assurance. At least if you calculate your aggregate score now, you can compare it to know if it’s enough for your course rather than waiting for UNN’s screening results to be out which would take time.
In all, one thing certain is that UNN will only admit the best aspirants into each department. So the question now is, how do you calculate your aggregate score for UNN? Well, in this article, I will be telling you how to do that, breaking down each step so you would understand it.
And by the end of this article, I am very certain that you will know your aggregate score. So without wasting much time, let’s proceed.
How to Calculate UNN Aggregate Score 2025/2026
To calculate your aggregate score for UNN, you will be needing the following details.
- Your UTME Score
- Your O-level Results
Unlike other universities whose aggregate is scored in percentage (100%), UNN’s own is over 400. 90% of your UTME score is added with 10% of your O’level score, which makes a total of 400.
Now to calculate your aggregate score for UNN, kindly follow the step-by-step process below.
STEP 1: Calculate Your UTME Score
To calculate your UTME score, kindly multiply whatever you scored in UTME by 0.9.
For example,
Let’s say Michelle scored 312 in UTME; to calculate her UTME score, we just need to multiply 312 by 0.9.
Multiplying it, we will get
312×0.9 = 280.8
So after calculating Michelle’s UTME score, we got 280.8. Now let’s keep that score aside and move to step 2.
STEP 2: Calculate Your O’Level Score
To calculate your O’level score, simply add the corresponding grade point of your 4 core O-level subjects together and multiply it by 0.1. Your 4 core O-level subjects are simply the 4 subjects you did in your UTME.
The corresponding grade points for all grades are as follows:
A1 = 90
B2 = 80
B3 = 70
C4 = 60
C5 = 50
C6 = 40
D7/E8/F9 = 0
Also, there is an additional 40 point bonus mark for candidates who are making use of 1 sitting. This means those making use of 2 sittings aren’t entitled to these bonus points.
So what exactly is this 1 and 2 sitting all about? Well, 1 sitting simply means making use of 1 O’level result (e.g., only WAEC, NECO, GCE, and more), while 2 sittings simply means combining 2 O’level results (e.g., WAEC & NECO, NECO & GCE, and more).
Now let’s take an example.
Let’s say Michelle is a nursing aspirant; the 4 subjects she obviously did in UTME are English Language, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Let’s also say she is making use of only WAEC (1 sitting), and she got the following grades in those 4 subjects.
English Language = A1
Physics = C5
Chemistry = B3
Biology = B2
To calculate her O level score, we first need to assign the corresponding grade points for each of her grades in those 4 subjects.
English Language = A1 (90)
Physics = C5(50)
Chemistry = B3 (70)
Biology = B2(80)
The next step is to add those points together. Adding them, we will get
90+50+70+80=290
If you notice, she is making use of 1 sitting, which means she is entitled to the 40 bonus points. So adding the bonus points, we will get
290 + 40 = 330
The final step to calculate her O-level score is to multiply 330 by 0.1, as stated above. Multiplying it will get
330×0.1=33
After calculating Michelle’s O-level score, we got 33, so let’s keep that aside. Now let’s move to the final step.
STEP 3: Add Them Together
The final step of calculating your aggregate score is to add your UTME and O’level scores together.
Still using Michelle as an example, after calculating her UTME and O’level scores, we got 280.8 and 33, respectively. Adding those 2 scores together, we will get
280.8 + 33 = 313.8
Therefore, Michelle’s aggregate score for UNN is 313.8 out of 400.
So how was it? Easy, right? I guess so. Calculating UNN’s aggregate score is not hard at all.
