What To Do Next After Accepting Admission On JAMB Caps & School Portal

by EDUFEED BRAINS

After accepting admission on your JAMB caps and school portal, there are some certain things you ought to do next. These things are very essential, and skipping any of them could cost you a lot.

What if I told you that about 15% of candidates’ admissions get withdrawn every year? Would you believe it? This happens not because they want it but because some of them failed to complete one of the necessary processes after accepting admission, which made their institution withdraw their admission.

So to avoid more occurrences like this, we decided to come up with this article that will be telling you the next thing to do after accepting admission on your JAMB and school portal. We will be listing them one by one and also guiding you on how to go about each of them.

This will be cool, right? I guess so. So without wasting much time, let’s proceed.

What To Do Next After Accepting Admission On Your JAMB & School Portal?

To make this part more understandable, I will be dividing it into two sections. The first will be telling you what to do next after accepting admission on your JAMB portal, while the second will tell you what to do next after accepting admission on your school portal.

1 JAMB Portal

After accepting admission on your JAMB portal, the next thing you need to do is to print out your JAMB admission letter. A JAMB admission letter is simply an official document from JAMB that proves that a candidate was offered admission into a particular institution.

Printing out this document is very essential, as your institution will definitely ask for it. To print out yours, kindly visit the JAMB portal or, better still, go to a cyber cafe to help you out with it.

2 School Portal

Below are the things you will need to do next after accepting admission on your school portal.

But before we proceed, please note that what we will be listing below are just general guidelines for most institutions. The aim of this section is for you to know the things you are required to do after accepting admission on your school portal so you can start preparing for them.

However, your institution might require you to do more beyond what’s on the list below, so make sure you check with your institution for specific details after completing this article.

1) Pay All Relevant Fees

There are some relevant fees you need to pay immediately after accepting admission on your school portal. They include

  • Acceptance Fee

The acceptance fee is a mandatory fee all candidates are required to pay after being admitted into a particular institution. Payment of this fee is just like a confirmation that you have accepted the admission offer.

If you don’t pay this fee, it’s just you indirectly telling your institution that you aren’t truly interested in the admission offer, which might result in your admission being withdrawn.

  • School Fees

We all know that the school fee is very important when it comes to institutions in Nigeria. It is also one of the relevant fees you will also need to pay after accepting admission on your school portal.

Though some institutions give their students a chance to pay 50% or 70% in the first semester and then complete the payment in the second semester. Regardless, keep in mind that this fee is inevitable.

  • Other Fees

Aside from the acceptance and school fees, there are still other relevant fees you will be asked to pay, which may include the laboratory fee, WiFi fee, obligatory fee, medical fee, and more, depending on the institution.

However, these fees aren’t the same in all institutions. That’s why I didn’t add them alone, unlike the acceptance and school fees, which are common to all institutions in Nigeria.

So what you have to do now is to check your institution’s portal to know the other fees you are required to pay aside from the acceptance & school fees, then pay them.

2) Do Your Clearance

Clearance is simply a process all newly admitted students in an institution must go through to verify their documents. It’s one of the important processes you have to pass through before you can be called a bonafide student of your institution.

It is of two of those types, which includes the

  • Online Clearance

The online clearance is a process whereby you will be submitting all the required documents to your institution’s portal for verification. Some of these documents include the JAMB admission letter, O’Level certificate, birth certificate, signature, and more.

  • Physical Clearance

The physical clearance is a process whereby you will be submitting your documents to your department and also faculty for verification. The documents you will be asked to bring for this physical clearance will slightly differ from what you will be asked to bring for online clearance.

So in essence, after accepting admission on your school portal, you will also need to do your clearance, which comprises the online clearance and the physical clearance.

3) Get Your Matriculation Number

The matriculation number is simply a unique identification number assigned to all students in an institution. It contains all the details of a particular student in an institution.

Getting this number is also one of the things you need to do next after accepting admission on your school portal, as you will need it for registration, payment of fees, examinations, and more.

4) Do Your Biometrics

The biometrics registration is also one of the important things all freshmen are required to do. It comprises things like thumbprinting, capturing, submitting a valid ID, and more, depending on your institution.

It is mostly done physically following the timetable released by the institution.

5) Do Your Biodata Registration

Here you will also be required to submit some of your details on the school portal. These details may include your full name, age, date of birth, and more.

NOTE: This biometrics and biodata registration is not really common to all institutions, so just check if your institution does it. If eventually you check and you find out they are any of the two, then don’t hesitate to proceed with it.

6) Do Your Course Registration

You will also need to register for all the courses you are required to do in your first semester (100 level). Without this course registration, it’s the same thing as going to school for nothing, as you won’t be able to sit for examinations when the time comes.

7 Get Your Library Card

The library card is an important document needed before you can be able to access any library in an institution. Some institutions make this card mandatory, while some make it optional.

But nevertheless, I will suggest you get it, whether compulsory or optional. To get this card, you will have to register for it at the designated place given by your institution.

8) Get the Required Study Materials

Getting the required study materials is very mandatory as a freshman. These study materials may include the

  • General studies textbooks like the GST, GNS, GES, GSP, or GSE, depending on what your institution calls it, in which some might even ask you to pay or register to get this textbook.
  • Manuals
  • Workbooks

And all required of you by your department or lecturer.

9) Get a Hostel

Getting a hostel is one of the things you need to do after accepting admission on your school portal. However, this is only for those who are interested in getting one for themselves.

If you are one of those interested and your institution has a hostel, you can pay for it. If your institution doesn’t have one or you don’t like the one there, you can rent one outside in a location that’s very close to your school.

10) Go for Your Medical Checkup

The medical checkup is an important process all students are required to pass through in most institutions in Nigeria. This way, your institution will confirm if your health status is good and also have a copy of your health records for future purposes.

It is also one of the things you are meant to do next after accepting admission on your school portal. Although some institutions make this checkup optional, I’ll suggest you just go for it, especially if you don’t have an idea of your health status.

It will also help in case any issues arise in the future whereby you will be needing the help of your institution.

11) Go for orientation

Orientation is like an event designed to welcome and introduce freshers to the institution. It may include activities like campus tours, academic advising, introduction to the policies of the institution, and passing out other relevant information to guide freshers throughout their academic year.

This event also helps freshers connect with their course mates and other relevant students. Although some freshmen might find this event not useful. But the truth is that it will really play a big role throughout your journey in the institution.

12) Know Important Buildings

There are some important buildings in your institution you need to know as a fresher. It includes buildings like cafes, lecture halls, and all you will be frequently visiting while in school. You can just ask someone familiar with school premises to walk you around.

13) Make friends

Making friends is also a very important thing you need to do as a fresher. Now the friends I am referring to aren’t just normal people; rather, they’re those who are really serious with academics and would help you one way or the other positively.

I know introverts might find this unnecessary, but when it comes to institutions in Nigeria, the right friends are just so important.

14) Attend lectures

The last on our list of the things you need to do after accepting admission on your school portal is for you to attend lectures. Attending lectures, especially as a fresher, is very important, and that’s the reason why I included it in this list.

I don’t even think this should be a problem because the main reason why you came to school is to study.

That’s just all about the things you need to do after accepting admission on your JAMB and school portal. So as a newly admitted candidate, the wise thing to do now is to start gathering all your relevant documents because you will be needing them since you already know what’s ahead from this article.

Also, start preparing money already because there are many fees you will be paying for, which I’ve already told you about in this article. Thank you for reading this article.
