JAMB Caps Shows “Not Admitted”? Next Step?

Nothing hurts more than when you check your JAMB caps hoping for admission and you see “Not Admitted.” I have been in your shoes before, so I understand how it feels. Because of this, you will find yourself checking your caps continuously, hoping for a miracle to occur; it’s understandable.

When aspirants see “Not Admitted” in their JAMB caps, they tend to ask different questions like “Why is my JAMB caps showing Not Admitted?” and “If my JAMB caps are showing Not Admitted, does that mean I won’t be given admission?” and so many more questions.

Well, if you are among them, I will suggest you calm down because, by the end of this article, you will be getting answers to all questions related to “Not Admitted” on JAMB caps. Additionally, I will be explaining what it means when your JAMB caps show “Not Admitted,” giving you possible reasons why your caps is still in “Not Admitted,” and also telling you the next step to take.

I hope this introduction calmed you down a bit. Well, I promise, by the end of this article, it will be much better. So without wasting much time, let’s proceed. I will start by explaining what “not admitted” means.

What is “Not Admitted” in JAMB Caps?

“Not Admitted” simply means you haven’t been offered admission. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be offered admission later on, depending on the reason that made yours show “Not Admitted.” So what exactly are these reasons? Let’s discuss that.

Possible Reasons Why Your JAMB Caps Are Showing “Not Admitted”

Below are the possible reasons why your JAMB caps might be showing “Not Admitted”.

1 School Admission Process Hasn’t Started

If your choice of institution admission process hasn’t started, your caps will show “Not Admitted,” and this doesn’t mean you won’t be offered admission later on. Normally, every candidate’s JAMB caps will show “Not Admitted” by default till their school admission process begins

2 Your School Hasn’t Sent Their Admission List To JAMB

Normally, your school will accumulate the list of people eligible for admission and send the list to JAMB for authentication, and by then, the JAMB caps of those people who made it to that list will have changed to “Admission in Progress.” So it’s either your name is on that list but your school hasn’t sent the list to JAMB yet; that’s why your cap is still in “Not Admitted.”.

Once your school finally sends the list to JAMB, and luckily, if your details are on that list, JAMB will have to confirm its authenticity. If they have checked and you turn out to be eligible, they will add your name to their updated list of admitted candidates. And once they have uploaded their updated list of admitted candidates, you will notice another change in your JAMB caps admission status. This time, it will change to “admitted.”.

So in essence, kindly wait for your school to send their list to JAMB. Some of you might ask, How do I know when my school has sent their list to JAMB? Well, you can monitor this process from their school portal, as most schools tend to update their candidates on their portal concerning their admission process.

3 All Batch Hasn’t Been Released

Another reason why your JAMB caps might still be in “Not Admitted” is because they haven’t released all their admission batch list. Most tertiary institutions in Nigeria tend to release admission batch by batch, starting from the first batch down to the last, depending on the institution.

If your school has probably released one admission batch list and has sent that list to JAMB for authentication and your caps is still showing “Not Admitted,” it means you weren’t on that list, but hope is not lost yet as there are still other list(s) to be released.

As long as your school admission process is still on, hope is not lost yet; all you need to do is just wait till they release the next batch. If they release the next batch and luckily your name is there, then you will see changes in your JAMB caps as it will show “Admission In Progress” once that list has been sent to JAMB and “Admitted” once your eligibility has been confirmed by JAMB.

So don’t just draw conclusions that you weren’t admitted because you saw “Not Admitted” on your JAMB caps until your school has released all the batches. I have seen students who got admission just on the day before their school stop the admission process because their name came out in the last batch. Let’s proceed.

4 Your O’Level Results Weren’t Uploaded

This is one of the major reasons why many students’ JAMB caps remain in “Not Admitted.” O’Level results are one of the most important criteria when it comes to admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This simply means if you didn’t upload your O’Level results, your chances of admission are very slim, if not impossible.

Some of you used awaiting results, in which you are required to upload after the results have been released, but failed not to. Some also uploaded their results during JAMB registration and failed to check and confirm if it was actually uploaded.

If your JAMB caps are showing “Not Admitted,” kindly check and confirm if your O’Level results are there; if they aren’t, kindly upload and wait for the next batch before the admission process for your school closes because without uploading O’Level, you might not be considered for admission.

5 School Admission Process Has Ended

If your school has concluded their admission process for that year and your caps still remain in “Not Admitted,” it means you are unlucky to be admitted for the year. This could be due to the fact that you didn’t meet up with their cut off mark.

The bitter truth is that not everyone will end up getting admission later on, but I pray you fall among the lucky ones.

What To Do If Your JAMB Caps Are Still In “Not Admitted” And Your School Admission Process Has Closed?

If you fall under this category, there are two things you can do, which are:

  • But JAMB Form

Most students will go ahead and register for the next JAMB if they aren’t admitted for that year. We have some institutions whose admission process will be over by the end of the year, while some whose admission will be over towards the closing date of the next JAMB registration.

If you haven’t been offered admission and the next JAMB registration is about to close, I will suggest you buy a JAMB form and register just in case you weren’t offered admission later on. This will make sure you don’t lose on both sides.

If you don’t take the JAMB form and you end up not being admitted, you will have to wait for the upper year before you can register for JAMB, which means a year will be wasted.

  • Take Advantage Of Some Schools Whose Admission Form Is Still on Sale

However, we will have some students who don’t want to stay at home again and want to gain admission that year. Such students can take advantage of some schools whose admission form is still on sale. Some schools might be selling supplementary or 2nd round forms by then; you can make good use of them.

JAMB Caps Showed “Admission in Progress” And Later Changed To “Not Admitted.” What To Do?

I met a student whose JAMB caps were showing “Admission in Progress,” but in the long run it changed back to “Not Admitted.” If this happens to you, it simply means during the process of JAMB checking your details to see if you are eligible, yours didn’t come out positive.

But cases like this are rare, as most people whose caps are in AIP will later change to admitted. Now the question here is, what might be the cause of this? Things like this often happen due to the following reasons:

  • Failure To Upload O’Level Results

If your caps changed from AIP to Not Admitted, it could be because you didn’t upload your O’Level results. Like I have explained earlier, O’Level is an important criteria when it comes to JAMB admission.

So do well to check your JAMB caps to see if yours was uploaded; if it hasn’t, kindly upload and wait for your caps to change. I will keep on saying it; check if your O’Level results are uploaded. Don’t wait for your case to be like this before you check.

  • Wrong UTME Subject Combination

Another thing that can make your caps change from AIP to Not Admitted is the wrong UTME subject combination. I discovered this recently; a student found himself in this situation, and we got to realize that his UTME subject combination was wrong.

If you are among those students whose AIP changed back to not admitted and the wrong UTME subject combination was the cause, I must say that it will be very hard to get admission in that same school. The best advice is to retake JAMB or look for a school whose admission form is still out and fill out a course that can go with your subject combination.

  • Mismatching Details

Let me give a perfect example: if the name on your JAMB is John Iyanuoluwa Peter and the name on your O’Level is John Iyanu Peter, you won’t be offered admission. And things like this can make your caps change from AIP to Not Admitted.

It could be due to other mismatching details like age, date of birth, and more. I saw a student also whose caps changed from AIP to Not Admitted, and when we investigated it, it was due to this same reason.

If you are just like this student, it will be very hard to be offered admission into any institution that year until you do a correction of data.

So in conclusion, your JAMB caps might be showing “Not Admitted” due to any of the reasons listed above. If you eventually don’t get admission, you can always retake JAMB or take advantage of a school whose admission process is still on.
